A 19-year-old man from South Dakota has pleaded guilty to sending death threats to employees of Epic Games, the company behind popular titles such as Fortnite and Unreal Engine. Jayden Griffin admitted to the charges after initially pleading not guilty in court.

Griffin’s guilty plea came during a hearing on September 29, 2025, where he acknowledged sending threatening messages to the company between October 24 and November 9, 2024. In his statement, Griffin confirmed his intent behind the messages, saying, "I sent messages to Epic Games, where I threatened to kill employees of the company. I intended for the messages to be viewed as a threat at the time that I sent the messages."

The court accepted Griffin’s change of plea, finding him competent to enter an informed decision. Court documents reveal that Griffin was fully aware of the charges and the potential consequences. "The Court finds that the defendant is competent and capable of entering an informed plea, is aware of the nature of the charges and consequences of the plea, that the plea is knowing and voluntary and is supported by an independent basis in fact containing each of the essential elements of the offense and orders that the defendant shall be adjudged guilty of the offense," the ruling stated.

Griffin is now facing up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, or both, as a result of his actions. However, his sentencing will take place at a later date, with the next court appearance yet to be scheduled.
