Team Falcons has announced the signing of chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura as they prepare for the upcoming Esports World Cup (EWC) chess competition, set to take place this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Hikaru will compete in two Champions Chess Tour (CCT) events to secure his spot in the EWC. According to the qualification format, only the top 12 players from the CCT will earn a place in the multi-title event, with the remaining four spots decided through a Last Chance Qualifier.
Hikaru Nakamura stands out among grandmasters for his past collaborations with esports organizations. Unlike many of his peers, who typically avoid partnerships with teams, Hikaru has previously worked with top esports organizations. Notably, in 2020, he signed a six-figure deal with North American team TSM as one of the most prominent chess streamers.
