The popular mobile game Honor of Kings has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest live audience at an esports event. On November 8th, more than 62,000 fans filled China’s National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, to watch the King Pro League (KPL) Grand Finals.

In an exciting best-of-seven match, All Gamers (AG Super Play) defeated Wolves Esports 4-2 to win the KPL championship trophy. The crowd size broke the previous record of 45,000 people, which had been set in 2016 during a PES 2016 event in Paris that took place alongside the UEFA Euro football tournament.

This record-breaking moment happened as Honor of Kings celebrates its 10th anniversary since first launching in China. Over the years, the game has grown into one of the world’s biggest mobile esports titles. It launched globally in 2024 and built a strong competitive scene through the King Pro League, which is now in its ninth year.

Tickets for the finals sold out in just 12 seconds, showing the incredible excitement among fans. Event organizers also shared that 85% of ticket buyers came from outside Beijing, proving how far people were willing to travel to see the big match.

Guinness World Records officials attended the event and officially confirmed the record during the halftime show.

The Bird’s Nest is not new to esports. It also hosted the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. Interestingly, this weekend was packed with gaming action across China. The 2025 League of Legends World Championship took place in Chengdu’s Dong’an Lake Sports Park, while Counter-Strike 2’s IEM Chengdu was held at the Financial City Performing Arts Center.
