Intel is moving forward with a new wave of layoffs this summer, following restructuring plans first outlined in April. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing, approximately 107 employees at the company's Santa Clara headquarters will be let go, with job separations beginning on July 15.
The impacted roles span a wide swath of Intel’s technical and managerial teams, including positions in chip design, cloud software development, engineering management, and project strategy. Specific job categories affected include physical design, SoC (system-on-chip) logic, product and software engineering, cloud development, and design-for-test engineering. Management roles across AI systems, IT, silicon design, and technology project oversight are also among those being cut.
Employees were reportedly given either a standard 60-day notice or a shorter four-week notice supplemented with nine weeks of benefits, according to IT industry outlet CRN.
The layoffs come amid broader reports that Intel could trim up to 20% of its chip manufacturing workforce, though the company has not confirmed a figure.
“As we announced earlier in the year, we are taking steps to become a leaner, faster, and more efficient company,” Intel said in a statement provided to CRN. “Removing organisational complexity and empowering our engineers will enable us to better serve the needs of our customers and strengthen our execution. We are making these decisions based on careful consideration of what’s needed to position our business for the future, and we will treat people with care and respect as we complete this important work.”
