Well, this used to cost a lot.
M80 Boston will enter the Call of Duty League for the 2026/27 season starting 5 December, replacing the Boston Breach after four years. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Activision eliminated CDL fees in April 2024, previously it was around 25 million dollars, and restructured revenue sharing so payouts track merchandise sales. What M80 acquired isn't a slot with a price, it is mostly running a team in a league that now pays according how much fans are interested in it.
The org that was supposed to have it
There was reports in March that OMiT had agreed to take over day-to-day operations of the Breach, with founder Rafi Huezo and co-investors overseeing the team ahead of a long-term takeover.
On 21 August, five days prior to M80's announcement, Huezo posted that he had "nothing but good things to say about their organization, the way they included us in all their plans for Challengers for the majority of their tenure," adding "excited for the next org."
The M80 announcement doesn't mention OMiT.
What M80 inherits
Three players from the Breach roster: Kristopher "Spart" Cervantez, Evan "Purj" Perez and Thomas "TJHaLy" Haly. Head coach Sean "Seany" O'Connor and coach Mike "Magxck" Libeccio stay.
Marcus "Afro" Reid was released on 14 August as an unrestricted free agent, currently there are no mentions.
Boston finished 10th of 12 in 2026 with a 3-4 record, after 8th in 2025 and 12th in 2024. M80's announcement cites its own Rainbow Six, Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant results instead.
Those results are real. M80 won the BLAST R6 Major in Munich last November, the biggest international title in the organisation's history, and its CS2 roster has multiple trophies and Major appearances. What none of it establishes is anything about Call of Duty, a game M80 has never competed in.
Staying put
The team operates out of Greater Boston. Plans include local events, watch parties, grassroots and collegiate initiatives, and regional business partnerships.
Adam Morrison will join as chief commercial officer, having helped build the Breach. "Building a franchise with strong New England and Boston heritage was one of the most rewarding undertakings of my career," he said, describing the chance to "help write a new chapter within that market alongside an emerging global brand like M80."
Founder Marco Mereu was blunt "Boston is a championship city, and it deserves a championship esports organization," he said, adding that "acquiring the Breach and launching M80 Boston is the natural next step, and the timing is not an accident. The Call of Duty League just posted the biggest audience" numbers of its run.
CDL general manager Daniel Tsay welcomed them, saying it was clear from first meetings that the ownership was "passionate, seasoned, and ultimately focused on delivering a team their community would be proud of."
