Simon Zhu, President of Global Investments and Partnerships at NetEase, has officially stepped down from his position after more than a decade with the Chinese gaming giant. The announcement was made on Zhu’s personal LinkedIn page on Friday, April 25, marking the end of a 12-year tenure at the company.

“After 12 incredible years at NetEase, I'm closing this chapter with the same passion that has driven me from day one,” Zhu wrote. “To developers, leaders, colleagues, and partners who placed their trust in me all these years: thank you [...] NetEase was my launchpad; the best is yet to come for all.”

Zhu's responsibilities will be taken over by Ken Li, Vice President of Corporate Development, who brings more than two decades of experience at the company. Li is notably credited for his leadership in the long-standing partnership with Blizzard and for helping develop Fantasy Westward Journey during his time as marketing director.

“Since joining NetEase in 2003, Ken has shaped Fantasy Westward Journey as its marketing director, led our 15-year Blizzard partnership, and driven Blizzard product lines as a true gaming visionary,” Zhu said. “I'm confident his leadership will guide the team to new heights, serving developers and studios with excellence.”

Zhu also confirmed that NetEase’s First Party Studios will continue operating under the leadership of CEO William Ding.

His departure follows a recent wave of executive exits from the company. According to Bloomberg, Zhu is among several high-profile figures to leave NetEase in recent months. Matthew Weissinger, President of Worldwide Publishing for PC and Console, departed in March 2025. Earlier this month, Matthew Liu, Marketing Manager of Mobile Games, also stepped down.
