Well that was weird. So you can throw dog poop in GTA 6.

South Park episode aired previously unseen footage, and the end credits did settle any doubt about where it came from: “Grand Theft Auto VI footage courtesy of Rockstar Games, Inc.”

The scene is in a Vice City beach, it shows the standard third-person camera and HUD including the minimap, so it’s genuine gameplay rather than something animated for the joke.

What happens is simple, a dog relieves itself on the sand. Its owner bends down to bag it. Jason throws something at him from behind, and when the man turns around, Jason takes the bag and hits him with it.

“And if they choose to fight back, you can pick up the dog poop and actually attack them with dog poop.”

Why this is a real marketing decision

South Park has partnered with Rockstar, GTA 6’s release as a running gag, with characters treating 19 November as the date things in America start improving. That bit has run since at least a September episode about biker gangs.

It fits the pattern Zelnick described when he called the Netflix premiere “one of the hors d’oeuvres” with more to come. It just wasn’t the kind of course anyone was predicting.

What it actually tells you

Not much about the game.

An NPC with a dog that produces waste, which the NPC then picks up, which the player can take from them and use as a weapon, which then prompts a reaction. That’s several interlocking systems in service of a gag, on a beach full of other people doing their own things.

It lines up with what Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut described about art-directing individual NPCs, and with the 600,000 animation figure.

A dozen new screenshots and the map size confirmation have landed in the same stretch.
