Sega has officially confirmed plans to open a flagship retail store in Tokyo, marking a major push to increase the visibility of its brand in physical retail spaces.
The announcement, shared on Sega’s social media channels, did not include an exact location. However, reports from Video Games Chronicle (VGC) suggest the store will open inside Shibuya Parco, a well-known department store complex that also houses outlets for Capcom, Pokémon, and Nintendo. Observant visitors have already spotted construction signage at the site, featuring Sega’s signature branding — further hinting at its impending arrival.
The new store is part of Sega’s broader transmedia strategy to strengthen its global brand presence. Justin Scarpone, Sega’s Head of Global Transmedia, had previously confirmed to VGC that the Tokyo location is scheduled to open in summer 2025, with another store set to launch in Shanghai through a regional partner.
“One of the core things about our transmedia team is we are really focused on elevating and strengthening the Sega brand,” Scarpone said. “If you go to retail today, you don't see 'Sega' enough. For example, we're opening a Sega store next summer in [Tokyo’s] Parco. We're also going to be doing a similar project in Shanghai.”
He added: “It's really exciting and we need to do a lot more of that, because Sega is a consumer brand that is surprisingly not in front of customers enough. Sonic is, but Sega isn't.”
