The Finals is adding a unique feature.

Dynamic Commentary will arrive in beta with the PRIME TIME update on 20 October, alongside Season 12.

It reacts to a curated set of moments, team wipes, intercepting a cashout, consecutive revives, and names . Audio director Carl Strandberg stated “Keeping it narrow means we can curate what he actually says, make sure it sounds good.” Embark is targeting a handful of comments per match, according to notes.

It’s a hybrid AI system, a generative model producing lines alongside the existing prerecorded commentary, with more events and modes planned later. Streamer Mode and Anonymous Mode both suppress your name.

The obvious problem

Naturally, every reply to the announcement is some version of the same joke. Hugh Jess. Ben Dover. The Jonkler. Dill Doe.

Starting with a narrow event list and a beta label suggests Embark knows exactly what it’s walking into. Epic’s AI Darth Vader in Fortnite went the way these things go within hours.

The less obvious one

Scotty and June was based on text-to-speech since launch, generated from samples of paid actors, and that drew criticism at the time. This extends the system.

Reception is split for sure. Some people frames it as a genuinely fun application of the technology. GamesRadar called it disappointing to see Embark double down on generative AI. Both readings are about the same feature.

The rest of Season 12

The destruction overhaul is the bigger update, the largest since launch, with structures bending, sagging and collapsing more naturally, and smoke reacting to forces in the arena.
