Atari has officially become the majority shareholder of Thunderful Group after shareholders of the Swedish gaming company approved a significant deal during an extraordinary general meeting on August 28, 2025.
The deal, originally announced on July 29, 2025, sees Atari acquire approximately 82% of Thunderful’s shares, totaling SEK 50 million (around $5.3 million) before costs. The agreement, however, was contingent on approval from Thunderful’s shareholders, who have now given their green light to the transaction.
Under the terms of the deal, Atari will purchase 333,333,334 shares from Thunderful Group at a price of SEK 0.15 each (roughly $0.02). The excess amount above the share’s nominal value will be allocated to Thunderful’s non-restricted share premium reserve.
The agreement stipulates that the deal be finalized by August 28, 2025, with the payment to be made in cash within three banking days. With the deal now signed and sealed, Atari officially assumes a majority position in Thunderful Group.
This acquisition gives Atari control of Thunderful’s various assets, including its development studios such as Coatsink, Early Morning Studio, Studio Fizbin, Thunderful Development, and To The Sky. The purchase also extends to Thunderful’s publishing arms, Rising Star Games and Thunderful Publishing.
Beyond the Thunderful deal, Atari has also made waves with a recent acquisition of five classic Ubisoft titles: Cold Fear, I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Grow Home, and its sequel, Grow Up. Atari plans to re-release these games, bringing them to new platforms with updated formats, additional content, and expanded distribution channels to reach a broader audience.
