Warner Bros. Games has reportedly cancelled a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy that was expected to launch later this year. According to a report by Bloomberg, sources close to the matter revealed that the paid DLC and a definitive edition of the game were scrapped as part of the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
Sources claimed that the decision was made because the additional content was deemed insufficient to justify the price Warner Bros. was considering. When approached for comment, Warner Bros. declined to respond to Bloomberg regarding the reported cancellation.
Insider Gaming previously reported that the expansion was expected to include between ten and 15 hours of new quests and activities, offering players additional gameplay within the Hogwarts Legacy universe.

The cancellation follows a challenging financial period for Warner Bros. Games, which described 2024 as a "disappointing year" in a letter to shareholders. The company reported a 29% year-over-year decline in revenue for its fourth quarter.
Prior to its Q4 earnings report, Warner Bros. implemented a restructuring plan that led to the closure of three game studios: Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. San Diego. The restructuring also resulted in the cancellation of Monolith’s highly anticipated Wonder Woman game.
In explaining the restructuring, Warner Bros. stated that it aimed to "refocus [its] resources and capital on proven IP and games from proven, world-class studios." The company also outlined a shift toward concentrating on four key franchises, each of which has generated $1 billion in consumer sales in past years: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC properties.
Despite the disappointing financial results, Warner Bros. appears committed to leveraging its most successful franchises in the gaming industry. However, for fans of Hogwarts Legacy, the cancellation of the planned expansion means fewer new adventures in the Wizarding World.
