Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, pushing the launch date to May 26, 2026. The studio announced the news in a blog post, citing the need for additional development time to meet the high expectations surrounding the game.
"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," Rockstar wrote. "The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."
The statement emphasized Rockstar’s long-standing commitment to quality, stating that with each new title, the goal has always been to exceed expectations. "GTA VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

Grand Theft Auto VI was first revealed in December 2023 with a highly anticipated trailer that confirmed a 2025 release window. Earlier this year, publisher Take-Two Interactive had further narrowed that window to fall 2025 during its third-quarter financial results, fueling speculation that the game was nearing completion.
The delay, while disappointing to fans, follows Rockstar’s tradition of taking the time needed to polish its blockbuster titles. The company’s last mainline entry, Grand Theft Auto V, launched in 2013 and went on to become one of the best-selling and most influential games of all time.
With the new date now set for spring 2026, fans will have to wait a bit longer—but Rockstar is clearly aiming to deliver a game worthy of the Grand Theft Auto legacy.
