Shopify Rebellion has claimed its first Halo Championship Series (HCS) title of the year, defeating powerhouse OpTic Gaming in a gripping Grand Final at the HCS Salt Lake City Major — the penultimate event of the 2025 season.
The North American esports organisation made a dominant run through the competition, starting with a flawless 3-0 record in pool play. From there, Shopify Rebellion navigated the upper bracket with precision, toppling Complexity and FaZe Clan en route to the final.
Their initial meeting with OpTic Gaming in the upper bracket final showcased Shopify’s growing stature in Halo esports. A clean 3-0 sweep sent the Green Wall tumbling into the elimination bracket, while Shopify waited for a rematch in the Grand Final.
OpTic Gaming, never one to back down, clawed their way back by eliminating long-time rivals FaZe Clan in a 3-1 series. That set the stage for a high-stakes final showdown, and OpTic forced the best-of-seven series to a decisive Game 7 — a tight Live Fire Slayer match that went down to the wire.
Ultimately, Shopify Rebellion secured the 50-45 victory, bringing home their first HCS trophy of 2025.
The win adds to what has already been a landmark year for the organisation. Shopify Rebellion had shown signs of top-tier potential earlier in the season, finishing second at the HCS Arlington Major and fourth at the Dallas Open. With the Salt Lake City victory, they’ve firmly solidified their place among Halo’s elite.
