Midnight Society, the game development studio founded by Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm and Robert ‘fourzerotwo’ Bowling, has announced it is shutting down permanently.
The studio, which was working on Deadrop, a free-to-play first-person vertical extraction shooter set in the 1980s, had sold Founders Access Passes to give players early access ahead of the global launch. In an official announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on January 30th, the studio shared, “Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers contributing to our new IP DEADROP.”

Reports also revealed that the company had undergone layoffs in September 2024, shortly after parting ways with Dr Disrespect over allegations that he had sent inappropriate messages to a minor. The streamer initially acknowledged the misconduct in a now-deleted tweet in June 2024 but later denied any wrongdoing. As a result, his YouTube channel was completely demonetized, but on the same day the studio announced its closure, his channel was re-monetized to generate ad revenue once again.
With the studio's closure, all employees are now looking for new opportunities, and Midnight Society has encouraged other companies to consider hiring its talented staff.
