Tencent Holdings has reportedly increased its stake in Kadokawa, the parent company of FromSoftware. On Monday, the Chinese tech giant acquired an additional 1.11 percent of Kadokawa's shares, raising its total ownership from 6.86 percent to 7.97 percent. Tencent originally purchased a stake in Kadokawa in 2021 for JPY 30 billion.
Recently, Kadokawa had been in talks with Sony about a potential acquisition, but instead, Sony increased its stake in the company to become its largest shareholder in late 2024.

Tencent’s subsidiary, SixJoy Hong Kong Limited, disclosed the purchase in a large shareholding report submitted to the Kanto Finance Bureau on Monday, according to a Nikkei report. In 2021, Tencent invested JPY 30 billion in Kadokawa, making it the third-largest shareholder in the Japanese publishing firm.
