Counterplay Games, the developer behind Godfall, is reportedly shutting down, though the studio has not officially confirmed the news. PlayStation Lifestyle reportedly verified a LinkedIn post stating that the studio had been "disbanded" after a partnership with Jackalyptic fell through.

The post, which has since been edited to remove references to the closure, began by praising Counterplay's contributions to the project at Jackalyptic: "Over the past six months, our project at Jackalyptic has been supercharged by the world-class devs at Counterplay Games," it read. "It's impossible to overstate their impact. From the very first day, they put their shoulders to the wheels like it was their baby."

However, the statement went on to say, "Unfortunately, we were unable to continue our partnership into the new year and [Counterplay Games] was disbanded," before listing profiles of those affected by the change.

The exact number of employees impacted remains unclear.Despite backing from Gearbox, Counterplay’s only released game, Godfall—a PS5 launch title developed in collaboration with Disruptive Games—was met with mixed reviews from both critics and players.

The studio's closure follows a troubling trend of job cuts and studio shutdowns in the industry. Just yesterday, we reported on the closure of Robocraft 2 developer Freejam, while Swedish company Enad Global 7 (EG7) began winding down Toadman Interactive, resulting in 69 job losses, along with 38 layoffs at Piranha Games.
