Epic Games has secured a major victory in its ongoing battle against cheating in Fortnite, as a court has ruled in favor of the company in a lawsuit filed against a player caught using unfair advantages during a competitive tournament. As part of the ruling, the unnamed cheater has been ordered to pay a $175,000 fine (~£127,251) and has received a lifetime ban from the popular battle royale game.

The lawsuit, first filed in December 2024, accused the player of using both hardware and software cheats to gain an unfair edge during Fortnite tournaments. Epic Games, renowned for its commitment to fair play in competitive gaming, made it clear at the time that cheating would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The company stated, “Cheating has no place in Fortnite, and we’re doing everything we can to stop it, including legal action.”

On June 25, 2025, the judge ruled in favor of Epic Games after the defendant failed to respond to the lawsuit. As a result, the player was ordered to pay the significant fine, which Epic confirmed would be donated to charity. The ruling also ensures that the cheater will never be allowed to play Fortnite again, cementing the permanent ban.

Epic’s firm stance against cheating has been met with praise from the Fortnite community, with many expressing support for the company's efforts to protect the integrity of the game. The lawsuit is a part of a broader strategy by Epic to clamp down on illegal exploits that harm the competitive environment and the experience of legitimate players.

This legal action follows a similar case from 2023, when former professional Fortnite player RepulseGod was caught sharing their account to qualify for the Fortnite Championship Series Global Finals. The player was permanently banned, and their prize money was revoked.
