Atelico has raised $5 million in seed funding to power its ambitious plans to integrate generative AI directly into game experiences—without relying on massive cloud infrastructure or AAA budgets.

The funding round, announced on August 14, 2025, was led by Nathan Benaich of Air Street Capital, with participation from a high-profile group of AI and tech leaders. Notable investors include Stanford professor and Snorkel AI co-founder Chris Ré, Hugging Face co-founder and CSO Thomas Wolf, and Snorkel AI CEO Alex Ratner.

Founded in 2024 by veterans of Uber, Meta, and Creative Assembly, Studio Atelico is working on an on-device AI engine aimed at enabling developers to build more dynamic and responsive games. In a statement, the company described the project as “a toolkit that helps us and other studios bring AI-powered experiences to life without massive budgets or custom infrastructure.”

The team is also using the funding to develop its own games that showcase this new technology. "We don’t mean ‘generate a few trees procedurally,’" the studio wrote in its press release. “We mean reactive worlds, characters that riff off your choices like improv actors, stories that don’t just branch but bloom. This is the kind of gameplay we’ve always wanted as players, and now we finally have the tech (and the team) to make it real.”

While details about their debut title remain under wraps, Atelico confirmed it is already deep in development. According to Air Street Press, the studio's first games will be aimed at high-growth sectors, specifically the mobile and cross-platform markets.

Ethics and responsible AI development are also core to the company’s mission. “Ethics aren’t an afterthought; they’re part of our foundation,” the studio emphasized, pledging collaboration with artists throughout the creative process. This includes ensuring “fairness, consent, compensation, and collaboration” during everything from model training to revenue sharing.
