Krafton and PUBG Studios have revealed a brand-new game called PUBG: Black Budget, a spin-off of the popular PUBG: Battlegrounds. Instead of traditional battle-royale gameplay, this title focuses on extraction-style missions and is built mainly for first-person play.
In this game, players become Contractors who are hired to explore a deserted research facility. Their job is to recover secret technology hidden somewhere on a mysterious island. But there’s a catch—the island is stuck in a time loop caused by a supernatural force called the Anomaly, making every mission risky and unpredictable.

How the Game Works
The game’s Steam page describes the core loop like this:
“Extract artifacts, research your findings, and uncover the truth behind the black-budget initiative, SAPIENS. In between missions, you’ll expand your personal Base, craft new equipment, and improve your character’s skills and proficiencies. Prepare to face PvPvE threats in an environment that grows more unpredictable with every loop – and the longer you stay, the harder it is to make it out alive.”
This means players gather items, study what they find, and then use that knowledge to become stronger. They must also decide when to escape, because staying too long can make it harder to survive.
What Players Can Expect
Like other extraction shooters, PUBG: Black Budget includes both enemy NPCs and other players competing in the same space. The island is about 2.5 by 2.5 kilometers, featuring different areas to explore, including underground labs. Each match can last up to 30 minutes, and players only keep the gear they successfully extract with.
KRAFTON announced that the game allows three-player squads and supports up to 45 players per match. One battle-royale-style twist remains: the Anomaly slowly closes in, shrinking the safe zone throughout the match.
