Riot Games Reveals Changes to Valorant Challengers Leagues
Riot Games revealed policy changes and new format for Valorant Challengers Leagues. In 2024, the Challengers competitions are set to run throughout the year. The upcoming season will have 2 splits.
The January start of Challengers will see most Leagues will host open qualifiers Each stage will have playoffs. Specific information for each league will be shared through regional channels.
A significant addition for the next year is the Promotion and Relegation event, taking place at the end of Stage 1. Following the 2024 Ascension Tournaments in September, the Challengers 2025 season will kick off in October.
Riot Games stated "The primary goal is to enhance talent development by providing greater flexibility in deploying players." Affiliate Partnerships will enable International League teams to collaborate with Challenger and Game Changers teams. Affiliate partnerships within Challengers are bound by regional restrictions, whereas those with Game Changers teams have none. These partnerships also introduce the concept of Two-Way Players.
Two-Way Players aim to address issues where substitute players signed to International League rosters weren't getting enough playtime. These players will now have the opportunity to participate in the Affiliate Partner Team's roster in Challengers and Game Changers.
Player Loans will be introduced alongside Two-Way Players. International League Teams will be allowed to loan players to other teams outside the International Leagues, such as Challengers or Game Changers teams.
