The Esports World Cup announced on its social media on March 11 that Overwatch 2 will be included as an esports event in its tournament.
Details about Overwatch 2's role in the tournament are limited, but Blizzard announced the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) in January as the replacement for the Overwatch League. The OWCS covers teams from North America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, and Asia, with a separate circuit for Korea.
The OWCS Open Qualifiers for North America and Europe will start after the "Season of Calling All Heroes" ended in February, with competitions beginning in March. The Asia region's Open Qualifiers began last month. The OWCS will allow teams to qualify for the Esports World Cup.
Overwatch 2 has been going through hard times as the game set off bad review records on Steam. Most of the playerbase is crucifying Blizzard for the lack of content in the game. Following a year after its launch Blizzards also announced the end of the Overwatch League.
