Bithell Games, the indie studio known for its narrative-driven titles and most recently Tron: Identity and Tron: Catalyst, has announced a wave of layoffs affecting the majority of its full-time workforce.
Studio founder Mike Bithell confirmed the news in a statement posted to Bluesky, revealing that eleven employees have been made redundant. The decision follows difficulties in securing backing for an upcoming, larger-scale project.
“It became clear leading up to the release of our most recent game [Tron: Catalyst] that we were not immune to the challenges faced by many game development teams seeking funding partners in 2024 and 2025,” Bithell explained.
While the news comes as another blow to an industry already dealing with widespread job cuts, Bithell emphasized that efforts were made to support those affected. “We've fortunately been able to communicate these challenges ahead of time, and work with affected staff to ease departures as much as possible via severance packages,” he said, calling the departing team “an incredible team of exceptionally talented people.”
Despite the cuts, the studio assured fans that ongoing operations won’t be disrupted. “The redundancies will not impact the availability of [its] existing self-published games and ongoing support for them,” Bithell clarified.
