Digital Foundry Parts Ways with IGN

Tech analysis outlet Digital Foundry has officially cut ties with IGN Entertainment, marking a significant shift as the company regains full independence.
During the latest episode of the Digital Foundry Direct podcast, founder and editor Richard Leadbetter announced that he, alongside Eurogamer founder Rupert Loman-West, has acquired IGN's stake in the business. The decision follows an offer from IGN to sell its shareholding, which Leadbetter and Loman-West accepted.
“Digital Foundry has parted ways with IGN and we've bought their shareholding of the business,” Leadbetter stated on the podcast. “What this means is that from now on, all aspects of Digital Foundry are decided upon by Digital Foundry.”
Going forward, the outlet will be entirely self-funded through its Patreon support system, allowing it to chart its own course without corporate oversight. The move ends a chapter that began in May 2024, when IGN Entertainment acquired the Gamer Network, including Digital Foundry, as part of a larger media portfolio.
Despite the separation, IGN expressed support for Digital Foundry’s return to independence. In a statement, IGN Entertainment president Yael Prough praised the outlet’s legacy and ongoing impact.
“Digital Foundry is a brand that we have immense admiration for, and we're incredibly proud of the work they've done over the years, including during their time with IGN Entertainment,” Prough said. “Richard Leadbetter and [the] team have built something truly special, and we're thrilled to see them return to their independent roots. We wish them the absolute best and will be cheering them on as they continue to grow.”
