The FIA, the global governing body for motorsport, has officially approved the creation of an esports regulatory framework during its latest FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting.
This groundbreaking framework, known as the FIA Esports Code, is designed to regulate sim racing competitions and establish legal guidelines for national events. According to the FIA, the Esports Code is the first framework of its kind created by a sporting federation specifically for virtual motorsport. The new code adapts key elements from the International Sporting Code (ISC) to suit the unique dynamics of sim racing.

The introduction of the FIA Esports Code is part of the FIA’s broader Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to strengthen the motorsport community and promote sustainability across all FIA-sanctioned activities. Further details on the Vision 2030 plan will be revealed in 2025.
In 2024, the FIA has been expanding its involvement in esports and sim racing. In May, the organization partnered with sim racing platform iRacing to launch the F4 Esports Global Championship, which features a licensed version of the FIA Formula 4 car. The event also offers competitors a chance to vie for a portion of a $25,000 prize pool.
