Fortnite has recorded its lowest average monthly player count in two years, according to data from Fortnite.GG. The game's average player base in May 2025 dropped to 1,039,379 users—the lowest figure since Chapter 4 Season 2 in May 2023.
This decline comes during the game's current Galactic Battle mini-season, a full-scale collaboration with the Star Wars franchise. The event introduced a completely overhauled loot pool, replacing traditional weaponry with lightsabers, blasters, and Force powers. While the Star Wars content has excited a segment of the fanbase, it has also stirred controversy.
One of the most talked-about additions is a fully voiced AI-controlled Darth Vader NPC. Once defeated in-game, the character joins players’ squads and offers in-game assistance. Uniquely, this version of Darth Vader is capable of holding conversations with players—unlike previous NPC companions. The feature quickly caught the attention of SAG-AFTRA, the union representing voice actors, which has since filed a lawsuit against Epic Games. The suit alleges that the AI voice may breach existing agreements with the organization.
Despite the ambitious crossover, not all players have embraced the Star Wars-themed content. Some fans argue the event may have contributed to the player count decline, suggesting that the heavy reliance on the iconic franchise has alienated parts of Fortnite’s broader audience.
Looking ahead, Epic Games appears to be turning the spotlight toward the upcoming launch of Chapter 6 Season 3. The company recently teased the next season in a promotional post about upcoming LEGO-themed Fortnite sets, closing the announcement with a promise of more “super-scale news.”
This phrase has sparked speculation among fans that the new season could center around a superhero theme. However, according to prominent leakers, the next chapter is expected to focus on original character designs rather than featuring another collaboration with Marvel.
