Fusion Esports Group to Acquire Astralis

Fusion Esports Group has officially acquired Astralis. The investment group is spearheaded by Jakob Lund Kristensen, Astralis co-founder, alongside Jonas Gundersen, former COO of Ninjas in Pyjamas and ex-Chief Commercial Officer of North.

The acquisition comes in the wake of Astralis' 2024 financial disclosure, which revealed a DKK 31.3 million (~£3.6 million) net loss. Much of the downturn was attributed to underwhelming performances from the organisation’s Counter-Strike roster, which notably missed qualification for four consecutive CS:GO Majors.

New Era for Astralis with Familiar Faces at the Helm

Jakob Lund Kristensen, a key figure in Danish esports and a former founder of Copenhagen Wolves, returns to the forefront of Astralis. His previous organisation developed several key players now associated with Astralis, including Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen and Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander.

In a public statement, Kristensen expressed his renewed vision for the organisation:

“Astralis is one of the biggest brands in esports, with a huge impact on an entire generation of Danish gamers. The potential is still enormous, both commercially and competitively. We’re building a new Astralis with fresh energy and new methods, while keeping our focus on performance.”

Joining him is Jonas Gundersen, whose experience in esports leadership spans both Ninjas in Pyjamas and Danish org North. His interest in acquiring Astralis was first hinted at in April, according to reports from Dust2.dk.

Investment Backed by Danish Business Leaders

The Fusion Esports Group acquisition is also backed by prominent Danish entrepreneurs, including Sander Janca, Founder and CEO of Flatpay, and Thorbjørn Rønje, Co-founder of Bifrost Studios. The group aims to inject both capital and strategic direction into Astralis, with the goal of returning it to competitive and commercial success.

Kristensen emphasized a patient but performance-oriented approach as the organisation turns a new chapter. Astralis’ revamped Counter-Strike roster is expected to debut under this new leadership as early as Friday.

“Our first match is already Friday with a new player and patience is key, but our priority is always to give players the best conditions to succeed – long term,” he added.
