30fps in 2025 there will be upgrades but that hurts a bit.

Nelson ran the game in front of crowd with an on-screen frame counter visible.

Every console version on display: 30fps. Base PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X.

Nelson stopped short of calling it final, he stated he'd need to consult the technical team about whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later. He also had nothing to share on resolution or ray tracing which expected.

People report he seemed enthusiastic about how 30fps looked rather than apologetic about it, which tells you something about where Rockstar's priorities sit.

The Pro question

No 60fps confirmation for PS5 Pro yet. No 40fps mode for 120Hz displays either, which is the option a lot of people were kind of hoping for.

The Pro has a stronger GPU than the base console but it shares essentially the same CPU. In a world this dense, with 600,000 NPC animations and the simulation running underneath them, CPU is the constraint which is the bottleneck. More graphics power doesn't double a frame rate that's bound elsewhere.

What this reframes

The 26-minute Extended Look was captured on a base PS5. So everything people spent yesterday calling technically staggering was a 30fps capture.

So there are 2 arguments that 30fps is fine when the image is this good, on the other side that a locked frame rate is doing a lot of work to make it possible.

Optimisation continues, and higher frame rates could be patched in later.

GTA 6 launches 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series XIS.
