GameBattles announced the closure of the platform on January 15th, 2024. GameBattles was acquired by MLG in 2006. Later MLG was acquired by Activision Blizzard in 2016.
Chris Evans, an Operations Supervisor at GameBattles, stated “Our team learned yesterday that Activision Blizzard has decided to shut down GameBattles, the last remaining branch of MLG, by mid-January. The entire team at GameBattles has been notified that we’re all being let go as part of the closure.”
