Riot Games has officially announced that Ground Zero Gaming will compete as a guest team in the 2026 League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) season, marking a major milestone for the Australian esports organisation.
The appointment was confirmed on December 22 and sees Ground Zero Gaming take one of the five available guest slots in the LCP, the highest level of League of Legends competition in the Pacific region. The organisation fills the vacancy left by TALON Esports, which exited the league following financial challenges that impacted its wider business operations.
According to Riot Games, the selection process involved reviewing multiple applications from across the region. The publisher stated that its decision focused on preserving both competitive integrity and regional diversity within the league.
“We determined that GZ met all our requirements and would be the best fit for the league,” said the publisher.
Ground Zero Gaming’s inclusion ensures continued Australian representation in top-tier Pacific League of Legends esports, an important factor as the LCP continues to evolve following recent structural changes.
Founded in 2016, Ground Zero Gaming has built a strong reputation within the Pacific League of Legends ecosystem. The organisation reached a high point in 2024 after winning both splits of the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO). That same year, it went on to secure a seventh-place finish at the 2024 PCS Summer Playoffs, competing against some of the region’s strongest teams.
While expectations remained high heading into 2025, Ground Zero Gaming struggled to replicate its earlier dominance. The team concluded the year with a top-eight placement in the third split of the Pacific Championship Series, showing moments of promise but falling short of previous results.
