Ubisoft has unveiled the format for its highly anticipated Rainbow Six Siege event, RE:LO:AD 2025, set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from May 8th to 18th. The event will feature 20 partner teams from the R6 Esports program competing for a prize pool of €480,000 (approximately £401,212). This event will also mark the debut of Siege X in professional play, offering fans a fresh and exciting twist to the Rainbow Six Siege esports scene.

The competition will be divided into two phases: the Group Stage and the Playoffs. The Group Stage will consist of five rounds of best-of-one matches, with each team starting with six Bullets in their Bullet Reserve. The Bullets will play a crucial role in determining a team’s ranking on the leaderboard. The number of Bullets a team has will influence their standing, and teams must carefully manage their resources throughout the event.

Group Stage Format

During the Group Stage, teams will compete in five rounds of best-of-one matches. Each team can challenge another team directly, except in Round 1, where the matchups are determined randomly. Teams cannot challenge the same opponent more than once throughout the Group Stage. When a team issues a challenge, both teams can decide how many Bullets to "reload" before the match, which is limited by the number of Bullets the opponent has in their reserve.

The winning team will gain Bullets equal to the round difference (based on the number of in-game rounds won) and will have their Bullets added back to their reserve. Conversely, the losing team will have their Bullets deducted. Notably, a team can choose to commit more Bullets than they have, but doing so means a loss would lead to direct elimination from the event. For the first two rounds, teams are limited to reloading a maximum of two Bullets, while in the following rounds, the limit increases to eight Bullets.

At the conclusion of the Group Stage, the four teams with the most Bullets in Rounds 4 and 5 will directly qualify for the Playoffs. The top eight teams will advance, with the bottom four automatically eliminated unless they use a Duel Card to stay in the competition.

Playoffs Format

After the Group Stage, the top eight teams will move on to a single-elimination bracket. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be best-of-three series, while the final match will be a best-of-five format. This stage will determine which team will emerge as the RE:LO:AD 2025 champion.

Special Cards and Strategic Elements

Ubisoft has introduced a unique card system for the event, adding an additional layer of strategy to each match. There are three special cards that automatically activate under certain conditions:

Survivor Card: If a team starts a round with just 1 Bullet and wins, they gain an extra Bullet. This card can be used unlimited times.

Flawless Victory Card: If a team wins a match with a perfect 7-0 scoreline, they earn two extra Bullets. This card can also be used an unlimited number of times.

Eliminator Card: Winning a match or duel grants the victorious team one extra Bullet. This card triggers automatically and can be used an unlimited number of times.

In addition to these automatic cards, three single-use cards will be available during the event:

Chicken Card: Allows a team to refuse a direct challenge and force the challenger to select another opponent. This card can only be used once in Rounds 2, 3, or 4.

Extended Mag Card: This card can be activated before a match to increase the number of Bullets a winning team retrieves, adding six extra Bullets to their normal recovery. It must be used once between Rounds 3, 4, or 5.

Duel Card: If a team is facing elimination, they can invoke this card to initiate a 1v1 duel. If the team that invoked the Duel Card wins, their Bullet Reserve is reset to 0.

These cards will play a vital role in shaping the outcome of the competition, as they introduce more strategic depth and decision-making for the teams involved.
