Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Siege is set for its biggest overhaul yet, with the game potentially being rebranded as Rainbow Six Siege X. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the beloved tactical shooter, which has become Ubisoft’s biggest and longest-running success outside of the Assassin's Creed franchise.
In a teaser video released this weekend, Ubisoft described Rainbow Six Siege X as "the biggest transformation in the game's history," promising to introduce "new ways to play, deepened tactical gameplay, and major upgrades all around!" A full reveal is scheduled for Thursday, March 13th at 5pm UK time, but a few details can already be gathered.
Ubisoft's blog post frames Rainbow Six Siege X as "a new era" for the game, one that will "set the stage for the years to come" and is aimed at "reinforcing Rainbow Six Siege's position at the top of tactical first-person shooters."
So, while this may sound like a sequel, Ubisoft emphasizes that it is not. The teaser footage mainly consists of shots from the current Rainbow Six Siege, sparking curiosity about how different Rainbow Six Siege X will actually be.
Fan reaction to the teaser has been largely positive, with many hoping that Ubisoft will take the opportunity to simplify some of the additions that have accumulated over the past 10 years, providing a more accessible experience for newcomers.
