Team Vitality has announced the signing of Chess Grandmaster Maxime ‘MVL’ Vachier-Lagrave as the organization’s new professional chess player. Vachier-Lagrave, one of the world’s top chess players, will represent Team Vitality on international stages and participate in community initiatives to connect the global esports and chess communities.
This move aligns with Team Vitality’s recognition of the growing competitive chess scene, which has seen a global surge in popularity. In 2023, the Chess.com app was downloaded 80 million times, contributing to one billion games played each month. Chess content also gained six billion views on YouTube, reflecting its increasing influence.

Vachier-Lagrave, a five-time Biel Grandmaster Tournament winner and two-time Sinquefield Cup champion, is also the 2021 World Blitz Champion. He earned the title of Grandmaster at age 14, becoming one of the youngest players to do so at the time. MVL has consistently ranked among the top 10 players globally, with expertise in the Najdorf Sicilian and Grünfeld Defense openings.
