Vitality have confirmed that Justinas "jL" Lekavicius will stand in at BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest, filling the gaps left by William "mezii" Merriman and Dan "APEX" Madesclaire while both take paternity leave. The organisation's announcement leaned into the pedigree, posting that "another Major MVP joins The Hive," which is a fair bit of framing for what's technically a temporary substitution. Vitality's own statement didn't specify which player misses which event, but earlier reporting from journalist Sébastien "KRL" Pérez, since broadly corroborated, has jL covering mezii at Porto in late August and then apEX at Bucharest in October.
Assuming that holds, the two lineups look like this:
- BLAST Open Porto: apEX, ropz, ZywOo, flameZ, jL
- PGL Masters Bucharest: mezii, ropz, ZywOo, flameZ, jL
A Free Agent With Something to Prove
For jL, this is a genuinely valuable shop window. The Lithuanian rifler has been without a permanent home since officially departing Natus Vincere in July, having stepped away from NAVI's starting roster a year earlier to take a break from competition. He hasn't been idle, spending time on loan at MOUZ where he took third place at both PGL Astana and the CS Asia Championships in 2026, and briefly standing in for Liquid at the Roman Imperium Cup. Across those limited 2026 appearances he's posted a 1.06 rating, which is solid rather than spectacular but suggests he hasn't gone stale.
Landing two events with the world's top-ranked side is about the best audition a free agent could ask for. There's a nice bit of pre-announcement comedy attached too, since when rumours were swirling about jL possibly joining 100 Thieves or FaZe, apEX himself replied with a joking "why not Team Vitality Lol." That aged well.
Vitality Need a Spark From Somewhere
The timing isn't ideal for a squad already wobbling. Team Vitality won five events on the bounce earlier in this run, an absurd stretch of dominance, and have since gone three consecutive events without a top-four finish. Their most recent outing at BLAST Bounty Season 2 ended at the hands of Liquid before they even reached the LAN finals. So a roster searching for its old form now has to absorb a personnel change at two significant tournaments, which is hardly the stability you'd want mid-slump. On the other hand, the core of ropz, ZywOo, and flameZ remains intact throughout, and slotting in a Major MVP is a considerably softer landing than most teams get when a starter goes missing.
