Atari Acquires Intellivision

Atari has acquired the Intellivision brand name from Intellivision LLC, along with rights to over 200 games, in a deal whose specifics remain undisclosed. Atari and Intellivision were rivals in the 70s and 80s as pioneers in the US console market. Interestingly, the deal does not encompass the Intellivision Amico. Atari clarified that Intellivision would undergo rebranding and persist in the development of the console project, initially slated for a 2020 release and previously overseen by prominent video game composer Tommy Tallarico. The company formerly known as Intellivision will undergo rebranding, with Atari granting licensing rights to feature Intellivision games on the console.
“Atari has been a valuable partner and we have every confidence they will be a responsible steward of the storied Intellivision brand,” said Phil Adam, CEO of Intellivision Entertainment. “We look forward to our expanded collaboration and the prospect of bringing a broad array of new titles to the Amico family gaming platform.”
