Battlestate Games is preparing to roll out a major update to Escape from Tarkov that will shift the game into a more accessible state ahead of its long-anticipated 1.0 release. According to studio head Nikita Buyanov, the long-rumored "softcore" changes are set to arrive "most likely" on October 8, just over a month before Tarkov exits its extended beta phase on November 15.
The update will serve as a significant turning point in the game’s lifecycle, easing the intensity that has defined Tarkov in recent months. It will usher in reduced AI difficulty, faster skill progression, expanded trading systems, and other changes designed to lower the barrier of entry for players. The update also marks the beginning of Tarkov’s traditional pre-wipe period, during which developers often tweak gameplay mechanics in preparation for a full account reset and fresh start.
In a message posted on social media, Buyanov confirmed the update is coming "this week," reinforcing expectations that October 8 will be the target date. He also noted that the "list of changes coming is pretty big," though full patch notes have yet to be released.
This shift follows Tarkov’s recent dive into hardcore gameplay mechanics, which were introduced during a wipe earlier this year. That update intensified the already punishing survival experience, removing various conveniences and pushing players—veterans and newcomers alike—to their limits.
