Life is Strange will be on Prime Video. After years of development limbo, the project is moving forward with a full series order and a creative team led by acclaimed writer and director Charlie Covell.
Originally released in 2015 by Dontnod Entertainment and Square Enix, Life is Strange quickly gained a devoted fan base for its emotional storytelling, nuanced characters, and supernatural twist. The adaptation will be handled by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with production companies Story Kitchen and LuckyChap.
Charlie Covell, best known for her work on Netflix's The End of the F**ing World* and the upcoming series KAOS, has officially joined as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In an exclusive statement to Variety, Covell expressed her enthusiasm for the project:
“It’s a huge honor to be adapting ‘Life Is Strange’ for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell stated. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
According to the show's official logline, the series will adapt the plot of the original game, focusing on Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. The story follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time after preventing the death of her estranged childhood friend, Chloe. As Max grapples with her newfound powers, the duo becomes entangled in the mysterious disappearance of a classmate. Their investigation leads them deep into the secrets of their seemingly quiet town, culminating in a harrowing, life-altering decision.
