Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob ""jabbi" Nygaard released a statement on their transfer to Astralis from HEROIC. Heroic pointed out, the two players had recently declined contract extensions following a push to oust Casper "cadiaN" Møller from the team.
The duo stated "We did not initiate a push to replace cadian, nor did we stand alone when these discussions were initiated on the team." "On the 13th of September 2023 stavn took contact to Heroic's management and cadiaN solely to express his thoughts on a frustrating period, involving key persons having left the organization, uncertainty about the future of the lineup and consecutive frustrating months on the server. Just as importantly, we were also unhappy with the dynamics regarding the leading of the team on and off the server. We felt that the team spirit had significantly worsened, and the team's leadership off the server had changed, such that cadiaN now had more responsibility and had to fill roles he previously did not need to, stavn made it clear that he was ready to take a step back from the team himself in order to deal with the situation." "On the 14th of September 2023, all players in the roster were informed about the aforementioned conversation by the Heroic management. It became clear that all 4 players and coaches in the roster (except cadiaN) shared and vocally expressed that they felt the same frustrations as stavn." "On the 18th of September 2023 a team meeting for all players, coaches and organizational representatives was organized by the Heroic management. At this meeting all players and coaches - not only jabbi and stavn - came to a common and final decision to part ways with cadiaN and stick together as a team with a new fifth." "No prior knowledge of Astralis plans and no signed future plans" "Our plan was to build a new future team with Heroic and find our new fifth player. At this point we were fully committed towards that project. However, we found out that the Heroic organization also was considering keeping cadian and building a new team around him instead. This was obviously causing trust issues with the Heroic organization. The following days were spent discussing different possibilities, but no final conclusion was found." "A released statement made by Heroic on the 25th of October 2023 stated that "stavn and jabbi agreed that if Heroic let cadiaN go, they would extend their contracts". This is untrue. We did have early negotiations with Heroic management about renewing our contracts but at no point did we commit or agree to sign new contracts with Heroic."
