NetEase Games has officially unveiled Marvel Zombies, the first PvE mode coming to Marvel Rivals, in collaboration with Marvel Animation and inspired by the popular Marvel Zombies series on Disney+. The new mode will debut on October 23, 2025, during the mid-season update for Season 4.5.
The announcement, made during the Thailand Game Show, adds a new twist to the hero shooter, giving players a cooperative experience for the first time. In Marvel Zombies, players will team up to survive endless waves of zombie enemies in the Midtown map, selecting from a roster of five enhanced heroes, each with exclusive modifiers tailored to the mode.
Playable Heroes and Unique Modifiers:
Thor – Unlimited Awakened Mode
Magik – Unlimited Darkchylde Form
Jeff the Landshark – "Hide and Seek" causes area damage
Punisher – Deploys an automated turret
Blade – Throws moon blades that ricochet
To raise the stakes, players will also face zombie versions of Namor and Scarlet Witch as boss enemies. Both characters will later become available as limited-time skins during the second half of Season 4.5.
This mode follows previous experimental additions to Marvel Rivals, including Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol and the Giant Size Hive Mind deathmatch mode. However, Marvel Zombies marks the first time the game has embraced a wave-based survival format.
NetEase revealed the PvE update arrives just days before the Ignite Grand Finals, the biggest esports event in Marvel Rivals to date. Set to take place at DreamHack Atlanta from October 27 to November 2, the international LAN will feature the top 12 teams worldwide battling for a $1 million prize pool — the largest in the title’s competitive history.
