Super Smash Bros. Melee pro Justin ‘Wizzrobe’ Hallett has rejoined Team Envy. Team Envy announced the signing on X (formerly Twitter), bringing Wizzrobe back to the organization after his stint with Luminosity Gaming. He was previously with Team Envy from 2019 to 2022 before joining Luminosity, where he played until February this year.
The Melee community responded enthusiastically to the news, with many seeing it as a sign that esports organizations are recognizing the potential of the Smash scene. However, Smash esports has long struggled with a lack of financial backing and support from Nintendo. Unlike Bandai Namco’s organized Tekken 8 circuit, the Melee and Ultimate communities have largely had to sustain themselves, with limited prize pools and tournament organizers frequently exiting the scene.

While Wizzrobe’s signing is a positive development, it may not signal broader change for the Melee community. He was originally dropped in 2022 after OpTic Gaming merged with Team Envy. Now, with Envy’s branding restored, the organization has decided to bring him back into the fold.
