Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against the creators of cheat software used in its popular battle royale game, Fortnite. The lawsuit, which targets Ediz Atas—known for developing Sincey Cheats and Vanta Cheats—was filed in North Carolina, the home state of Epic Games. In addition to Atas, the case also involves several unnamed resellers who have been distributing the cheat software.

Since early 2022, Epic Games has been actively combating cheating in Fortnite, with the company revealing it has banned over 15,000 accounts in the U.S. alone. Epic claims that since January 2023, Atas has been profiting from creating and selling cheat programs that give players unfair advantages over those who play legitimately. According to Epic’s allegations, these cheats undermine the game’s integrity by bypassing the developer’s anti-cheat measures and violating the game’s End User License Agreement (EULA).

The lawsuit highlights a growing concern within the gaming industry about the impact of cheating on both the player experience and the financial success of games. Epic claims that the proliferation of cheating software is directly hurting Fortnite’s revenue, as legitimate players may be discouraged from playing due to unfair competition. This, in turn, could lead to decreased sales of in-game content such as season passes and cosmetics.

Epic’s legal complaint does not specify an exact monetary amount for damages, but it seeks statutory and compensatory damages, which could include lost profits, attorney’s fees, and other costs related to the legal proceedings.
