PlayVS, one of North America's amateur esports platforms, has announced the launch of Game On: An NHL/NHLPA Scholastic Gaming Initiative. The initiative, which is backed by the NHL/NHLPA Industry Growth Fund, aims to offer students a unique way to connect with their local NHL teams through competitive esports and skill-building activities.
The program, set to roll out in New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Detroit, seeks to inspire the next generation of hockey fans by integrating esports into the fabric of high school student experiences. According to a press release, Game On will provide opportunities for students to engage in competitive gaming while also fostering critical life skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork.
“The power of gaming to unite young people in meaningful ways is unmatched,” said Jon Chapman, CEO of PlayVS. “Through this partnership with the NHL and NHLPA, we are not only creating new avenues for young players to interact with the sport of hockey but also providing them with valuable life skills through healthy competition.”

In addition to local activations in the three selected markets, PlayVS will host a national EA Sports NHL 25 tournament from June 13 to 15, 2025, which will serve as a grand finale for the initiative’s first season. The event will feature top players from across the country, providing them with a chance to showcase their skills on a national stage.
Each of the NHL teams involved in the initiative will work closely with local high schools, where students can participate in various gaming events designed to engage and inspire them. This collaboration aims to expand the reach of hockey culture and strengthen the connection between young people and their favorite teams.
PlayVS’s new initiative follows the company's recent acquisition of Generation Esports and Playfly College Esports, creating a unified ecosystem for collegiate esports. The company’s expanded reach now spans from high school to college, allowing PlayVS to influence the broader landscape of competitive gaming in North America.
