Nintendo Breaks Records with Switch 2

Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch 2, is off to a record-breaking start, selling over 3.5 million units globally within just four days of its release. The launch marks the most successful hardware debut in the company's history.

According to Nintendo, the impressive sales figures include all available models at launch, such as the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, as well as both Japanese-language and multi-language versions of the system.

The Switch 2’s early performance far outpaces its predecessor. The original Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, sold approximately 2.7 million units during its first month on the market, as reported by Bloomberg.

"Fans around the world are showing enthusiasm for Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go," said Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America. "We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways."

Looking ahead, Nintendo has ambitious projections for the new console. The company expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units and 45 million pieces of software by the end of its fiscal year in March 2026. It also forecasts a 63% increase in net sales during this period.

Further optimism comes from market research firm Ampere Analysis, which projects more than 13 million players will purchase the Switch 2 over the course of 2025.
