Nintendo has prohibited the use of its titles at RTA in Japan, a prominent Japanese speedrunning charity event, citing unauthorized use of its games in previous broadcasts.
According to a statement released by RTA in Japan and translated by Automaton, the non-profit revealed that Nintendo had issued a formal notice in June warning that, “as a legal entity, [RTA in Japan] would have to ask for permission in advance” to feature any of its games. The company further stated that past appearances of Nintendo titles at the event were "unauthorised."
RTA in Japan, which became a registered legal entity in 2020, said it would comply with the publisher's directive and has opted not to include any Nintendo-published games in its upcoming summer event, scheduled for August 9–15.

The event, which will raise funds for the international humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders, is a major fixture in Japan's speedrunning community. In light of the restrictions, Automaton reports that RTA in Japan will now be required to “apply for individual usage permissions for each title they want to feature” in future events.
