Blizzard Entertainment has dropped a dramatic teaser for World of Warcraft’s next expansion, Midnight,offering a glimpse into a looming new threat just days before its full reveal at Gamescom 2025.

The short video sets a foreboding tone as it introduces a rising Void Storm—an ominous force beginning to engulf Azeroth. “The shadows descend and Azeroth stands on the brink of its darkest hour,” reads the teaser’s official description. It features a series of shadow-drenched visuals, including quick flashes of the storm itself and a haunting close-up of Xal’atath, the mysterious void entity that has long fascinated fans.

One surprising twist in the teaser is its move from Azeroth to Earth. The Void Storm is shown gathering over the Cologne Cathedral, a real-world location just steps from Gamescom’s venue in Germany. This blending of in-game and real-world imagery suggests Blizzard is aiming to heighten the drama surrounding Midnight’s debut.

Beyond the trailer, Blizzard remains tight-lipped on most expansion details. However, it has confirmed that Midnight will feature a paid early access period, continuing a trend seen in recent expansions. Another major update—player housing—is also expected to launch ahead of Midnight’s full release, though no exact timing has been provided.
