Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California, is an American video game developer and publisher. Originally founded in February 1991 as Silicon & Synapse, Inc. by Michael Morhaime, Frank Pearce, and Allen Adham, the company initially focused on game ports before transitioning to developing their own titles in 1993, such as Rock n' Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings. Following an acquisition by distributor Davidson & Associates in 1994, the company became known as Blizzard Entertainment and released Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, marking the beginning of the iconic Warcraft franchise. Most of the titles by Blizzard became iconic games even though the quality of the titles is questioned over the years.

Over the years, Blizzard Entertainment has developed several successful franchises, including Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, and Overwatch. Notable releases include the massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft in 2004, which became a cultural phenomenon, as well as the real-time strategy game StarCraft and the action role-playing game Diablo series. Other projects include the collectible card game Hearthstone, the multiplayer online battle arena Heroes of the Storm, and remasters such as StarCraft: Remastered.
