Unity CEO and President John Riccitiello announced his retirement. Following the backlash after the announcement of runtime fees, John Riccitiello was one of the most criticized figures within the company. John Riccitiello started his career at Unity in 2014. James M. Whitehurst will replace him as the interim CEO. Unity's Board of Directors will look for a permanent replacement in the meantime.

James Whitehurst stated "I look forward to working closely with the board and our talented global team to execute on our strategy, and I anticipate a seamless transition."

Unity was forced to change its Runtime fees policy after the criticisms from the developers. Some developer studios even made donations to Godot Engine.
