Epic Games Lowers Royalty Fee

Epic Games is enhancing its terms for developers using Unreal Engine by launching the “Launch Everywhere with Epic” program. Under this initiative, the royalty rate for games built with Unreal Engine will be reduced from 5 percent to 3.5 percent, provided the games are available on the Epic Games Store on launch day. This program will take effect on January 1, 2025, for eligible games published on the Epic Games Store starting that year.

This move aims to incentivize developers to list their games on Epic’s store, which now includes new platforms on Android and iOS. The reduced royalty rate will apply across all platforms and stores where a game is listed, including consoles.

However, if a developer releases an Unreal Engine game on a PC or Android store without listing it on the Epic Games Store, the royalty rate will revert to 5 percent. For iOS games, Epic is temporarily waiving the simultaneous release requirement due to Apple’s Core Technology Fee, which affects many developers using Epic’s iOS store. If Epic changes its iOS policy, developers will receive a four-month notice.

Additionally, Epic already waives Unreal Engine royalties for sales processed directly through the Epic Games Store, providing further incentives for developers to use its platforms.
