During his presentation at Unreal Fest 2024, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced that the company is now "financially sound." Reflecting on the challenges of 2023, he noted the need for financial restructuring, which included laying off around 830 employees last September.
"We spent the last year rebuilding and really executing solidly on all fronts," Sweeney stated. He revealed that both Fortnite and the Epic Games Store have achieved new records in user engagement, with Fortnite reaching 110 million monthly active users over the holidays.
Steve Allison, General Manager of the Epic Games Store, added that the storefront has also seen growth, reporting 70 million monthly active users last month.
In addition to financial updates, Epic recently filed a legal complaint against Google and Samsung, alleging that Samsung's Auto Blocker feature restricts competition by making the Google Play Store the only viable option for app distribution on Samsung devices. This complaint follows Epic's previous antitrust victory against Google last December, where it argued that the current collaboration between Google and Samsung undermines the jury's verdict.
