Carlo Acutis, an Italian website designer will be the first "gamer saint" following Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions, he has been cleared for canonization by Pope Francis. Acutis, who died from leukemia at a young age, also will become the Catholic Church's first millennial saint.
Reportedly, a Brazilian boy born with a severe birth defect that hindered his ability to eat normally experienced healing after his mother prayed for Carlo Acutis' intercession. A second miracle involved a Costa Rican girl who recovered from a head trauma after her mother prayed at Acutis' tomb. These incidents have contributed to the attribution of miracles to Acutis.
Pope Francis confirmed a second miracle attributed to Acutis's intercession on May 23, 2024, paving the way for his canonization. Acutis, noted for his devotion and proficiency with technology, apparently garnered a following among Catholic youth worldwide. The reports state that he liked games such as Halo and Pokemon and owned a PlayStation.
Carlo Acutis also established a website where he documented reports of miracles occurring around the world. In addition to his passion for computing and gaming, Acutis played the saxophone, enjoyed soccer, cherished animals, and created short, humorous films featuring his dogs.
The Church's traditional sainthood process requires confirmation of two miracles. Acutis's to be formally recognized as a saint in 2025. Carlo Acutis will be one the youngest saints and notably, the first recognized saint known to have played video games.
