Riot Games revealed its new anti-cheat software for Legaue of Legends. In patch 14.9, Riot Games introduced Vanguard to League of Legends, adopting the kernel-level anti-cheat system previously utilized in Valorant. The anti cheat software Vanguard was also criticized with the launch of VALORANT. The aim was to combat bots, scripters, and other forms of cheating, prompted by Riot's own data revealing potential cheating in one out of every 15 LoL games. the methods employed by Vanguard have sparked controversy, with accusations of high CPU usage, spyware-like behavior, and even allegations of taking screenshots of players' displays.
Since its implementation on May 1st, these concerns have been eclipsed by reports of Vanguard causing PCs to crash, fail to boot, and allegedly altering internal system files. Riot's response on the League of Legends subreddit defended the anti-cheat system, asserting that reported issues were rare and refuting claims of PCs being permanently damaged.
Riot Games officials stated "We've individually resolved a few of the major threads you may have seen so far of users claiming this with their machines and have confirmed that Vanguard wasn't the cause of the issues they were facing."
